Dishing out free ice cream with Clyde 1 on the hottest day of the year

After an unbelievable hot spell of weather for Scotland, last Thursday saw the hottest day of the year ever with the mercury hitting a record breaking 33c – and what better day to help the people of Glasgow and the west cool down!

Clyde 1 reached out to us with a cool idea and so some of the Porrelli team hit the road with DJs Grant and Amber to give away hundreds of tubs of ice cream around various parks in the area.

Things kicked off at Strathclyde Country Park where the giveaway began, with Grant and Amber broadcasting live from the park and lots of passers-by flocking round while we handed out our little tubs as quickly as possible before they melted!

We then headed to Queen’s Park in Glasgow’s south side, pitching up at the park entrance on Pollokshaws Road where lots of passing cars stopped after hearing about the giveaway on Clyde 1. Next stop was George Square – as you can imagine, it didn’t take us long to run out of ice cream in the city centre on a sunny day!

Our final stop was Kelvingrove Park in the west end, where we gave away the remainder of our ice cream to passing taxi drivers, runners, and even the police dropped by to pick up a tub or two.

Many thanks to the team at Clyde 1 and we hope we helped some of you beat the heat!
